The Kids Are Back in School… Now It’s Your Turn
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve watched kids head back to school.
And after a summer of vacations, camps, changing schedules, and trying to keep everyone entertained, many parents may finally have a little breathing room. 😊
So here’s my back-to-school reminder for the parents:
Don’t Forget to Put Yourself Back on the List
And I’m not necessarily talking about booking a massage or taking a day off—although there’s absolutely nothing wrong with either.
Sometimes, self-care is also taking care of the things we’ve been putting off.
- Maybe it’s finally scheduling that doctor’s appointment.
- Getting back into an exercise routine.
- Looking at the household budget after an expensive summer.
- Reviewing your credit report or tackling those credit card balances.
- Or finally having a conversation about a financial goal that’s been on your mind.
Sometimes Not Knowing Creates More Stress
I see this quite often in my mortgage business.
Someone has been thinking about buying a home but hasn’t talked to a lender because they’re worried they won’t qualify.
Maybe they assume they need a much larger down payment, or they’re waiting for their credit score to be “perfect.”
Or perhaps they’re already homeowners and wondering whether they should refinance, renovate, move, or simply stay where they are.
So they put off the conversation.
But here’s something I’ve learned over the years:
Knowing Where You Stand is Often Far Less Stressful Than Wondering
You may find out you’re closer to your goal than you thought.
Or you may discover that you’re not quite ready—and that’s okay too. At least you’ll know what needs to happen next.
Give Yourself a Little Homework
Last week, I wrote about teaching our children how to build good credit and preparing them for the financial responsibilities that come with adulthood.
This week, perhaps the homework is for us. 😊
What’s one thing you’ve been putting off that would give you a little more peace of mind if you took care of it?
It doesn’t have to be accomplished today. Sometimes simply making the appointment, asking the question, or understanding your options is enough to get started.
Bottom Line
Self-care doesn’t always mean doing something indulgent.
Sometimes it’s simply taking care of something that’s been weighing on your mind and taking that first step.
And if that happens to involve buying a home, refinancing, or simply understanding your options, I’m always happy to help.
Even if it’s just a quick question. No pressure. Just clarity.
