Whether it is a first home or a retirement home, buying a house is one of the most important events in a person’s life. When walking clients through the process of obtaining a home loan, Ryan Thompson of BankSouth Mortgage never loses sight of what it will mean to his clients to be home owners, both in terms of quality of life and personal finances.
“The mortgage process can be tricky,” Ryan says. “Many people are intimidated by the requirements. It’s my job to make them feel comfortable and to make sure they have a full understanding of what’s going on. And one of the best parts for me is to see the excitement on their face when we tell them, ‘We’re going to be able to do this.'”
A graduate of Georgia College & State University and a native of the Lake Oconee area, Ryan’s dedication to customer service is important to him. In an era of big banks and online home loans, Ryan strives to be the guy his customers can trust.
“I want to be a lender with a face, not a URL address,” he says. “The thing I like most about what I do is dealing with people. I’m a people-person, and I’m able to give my customers a level of personalized service that some of the large banks can’t do. Especially for the first-time home buyer, that’s something that people remember and appreciate.”
Currently Ryan handles mortgages for the Athens area, including Oconee, Jackson, Hall, Oglethorpe, Morgan, Greene and Putnam counties.
