Q&A with Laura Brown

What made you decide to be a BankSouth Loan Officer?

From a young age, I always knew I wanted to help people. I was just not sure how.
When I started in the mortgage industry back in 1992, I quickly learned that what we offered was much more than a transaction.
I was helping real people and their families be able to change their lives by owning a home where memories are made and cherished.

If you could be anywhere than your home state, where would you want to be? Why?

The beach! You realize how small you are when you are looking at how vast the ocean is and it brings me peace. It’s definitely my happy place!

What is something most people don't know about you?

One thing people don’t know about me is that I am adopted (so was my younger sister).
I was extremely fortunate to be raised by the 2 people I admired the most, my mom and dad (they are both passed away now).
The lessons of life they taught me along with the great example they showed of what it takes to have a lifetime successful marriage, I will always cherish.

What professional awards have you received in your field?

2019 BankSouth Mortgage Chairman’s Award which is given to the professional whose leadership and individual contributions are essential to the sustainable success of the enterprise.
2020 Obie Award for Mortgage Professional of the Year.
2021 Emerald award winner from Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia (closed minimum $100 million in volume and member of MBAG)

Bio of Laura Brown

Laura Brown, originally from Rome, Georgia, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Jacksonville State University. Laura has over 31 years of mortgage industry experience and specializes in conventional, FHA, and VA loans. She also has extensive experience working with first time homebuyers and those purchasing new construction. Laura truly cares about her clients and loves being able to help them achieve their dream of homeownership. She does not look at her clients as a single transaction, but as an opportunity to connect and become a trusted financial advisor to those she works with. Laura aims to provide a personalized and professional experience that exceeds clients’ expectations. She also concentrates on fully educating her clients on the home buying process so that all guesswork is eliminated. Laura resides in Gwinnett with her husband, Bo, and their dog, Pepper. She has a huge heart for animals and is a member of the North Metro First Baptist Church.

Some of the main factors that affect the interest rate are credit score, down payment or loan-to-value, the type of mortgage, and how long the interest rate is locked.

These rates are not specific to BankSouth Mortgage but are provided to give a general idea of where rates are nationally for different loan types. This information is calculated from actual locked rates with customers across 35% of all mortgage transactions nationwide.

The OBMMI™ methodology takes the average rate of all appropriate interest rates locked through the Optimal Blue, LLC (“Optimal Blue”) product and pricing engine (“PPE”) on a given day. No adjustments to the rates that account for buy-up or buy-down decisions made by individuals are performed. These indices leverage data from Optimal Blue PPE lock requests (approximately 35% of all locks nationwide) aggregated daily and updated nightly with the previous day’s locks. Weekends and holidays are excluded. All applicable product types are included unless otherwise specified. Had an easy time getting through the mortgage process and getting to closing. After dealing with some other banks on previous houses I've bought, this was MUCH easier to deal with.

It would have been better if William Riley had been a better commentator. During most communications with William it seemed like he was unsure and distracted. Communications seemed vague.
