Q&A with Katy Nelson

Why did you decide to be a BankSouth Loan Officer?

I decided to become a loan officer because I wanted to be able to help people achieve their dreams. I also have family in the real estate business who I knew would be along my side throughout the journey. It gives me flexibility with my two young children and I get to work from home as well. Once I got into this business and saw what a difference I made helping others purchase or refinance their homes, there was no turning back. The feeling and gratitude you receive from people who never thought it was possible is something so heartwarming. I'm thankful I get to be apart of something that helps people achieve one of their biggest life decisions, being a homeowner.

What is your biggest success professionally? Why was it a big success?

My biggest success professionally would have to be the time one of my borrowers called me frantic because they were supposed to close the following week on their new home and just got told they weren't going to be able to by their previous lender. I had the perfect loan program for him since he was self-employed. I ended up closing him 2 in a half weeks later. That loan was actually probably one of the easiest loans I ever did and it was very memorable because of how thankful the borrower was that I was able to get him closed when someone else failed to do so.

What do you enjoy doing on weekends?

I enjoy spending time with my two kids, traveling when I can and watching football and soccer!

Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up? Why?

When I was younger, I always thought I was going to be a nurse when I grew up. I loved the idea of being able to help people. I guess you could say I followed that same path in the sense of helping people. Now I help people whether it is their first home, second home, investment property or just pulling out equity in their current houses. The satisfaction of helping a borrower's dreams come true when purchasing their first home will never get old to me.

Mortgage Market Interest Rates

Interest rates for mortgages can vary significantly from one borrower to the next based on the specific details of the transaction. Some of the main factors that affect the interest rate are credit score, down payment or loan-to-value, the type of mortgage, and how long the interest rate is locked.

The information below depicts average rates on a national level. These rates are not specific to BankSouth Mortgage but are provided to give a general idea of where rates are nationally for different loan types. This information is calculated from actual locked rates with customers across 35% of all mortgage transactions nationwide.

Rates/terms illustrated in the chart may not be available through BankSouth Mortgage. Rates and information in this chart are powered by OBMMI™ (“Optimal Blue Mortgage Market Indices”). The OBMMI™ methodology takes the average rate of all appropriate interest rates locked through the Optimal Blue, LLC (“Optimal Blue”) product and pricing engine (“PPE”) on a given day. No adjustments to the rates that account for buy-up or buy-down decisions made by individuals are performed. These indices leverage data from Optimal Blue PPE lock requests (approximately 35% of all locks nationwide) aggregated daily and updated nightly with the previous day’s locks.
